Drone LiDAR surveying
Drone LiDAR survey calculator
Easily calculate expected LiDAR point cloud density, maximum flight altitude, flight path length, time required, width of the scanned strip, and dozens of other essential parameters with our user-friendly online calculator. Input your project specifications, such as survey area size, drone speed and turn radius, LiDAR frequency and field of view, and desired overlap percentage , and let our calculator instantly generate comprehensive results.
Through this platform, users can optimize flight parameters to achieve the desired level of data resolution and accuracy. The calculator takes into account various factors, including LiDAR sensor specifications, scanning geometry, and drone speed. Obtain precise estimates for flight altitude, ensuring optimal coverage without compromising data quality. Additionally, the tool considers the width of the scanned strip, allowing users to customize survey parameters based on specific project requirements.
Save valuable time and resources by accurately predicting the duration of your LiDAR survey.
The calculator quickly provides information for selecting the right type of platform for the job - a multicopter, fixed-wing drone, helicopter, or maybe even a space satellite 😎
Here are some parameters of a FIXAR 007 drone with Topodrone 200+ LiDAR:
LiDAR frequency - 530 000 Hz (Full frequency - 1920 000 Hz, but LiDAR's FOV is only partially used on a fixed-wing drone)
Maximum LiDAR range - 200 m
LiDAR FOV - 100 degrees (Full FOV - 360 degrees but LiDAR's FOV is only partially used on a fixed-wing drone)
Drone speed - 18 m/s
Colorized LiDAR scans
Improve your surveying experience with the c colorized LiDAR scans
By employing this advanced technique, you gain a comprehensive understanding of the surveyed area's topography, vegetation, and structures. The colorized point clouds not only enable precise measurements and volumetric analysis but also facilitate intuitive visual assessments. This fusion of LiDAR and color imagery becomes especially valuable in scenarios where distinguishing features and anomalies are crucial for decision-making.
Colorized scans are produced by merging point clouds and RGB images in post processing, so to capture the required data you will need both LiDAR and an RGB camera.
While you can make separate flights with different instruments it will save a lot of time to have both sets of data captured simultaneously by having both installed on the drone together.
For the best results we recommend to use powerful LiDARs capable of generating dense cloud points.
A great solution is Topodrone 200+ paired with P61 high resolution RGB camera.
